Aug 23rd Winneconne Paddling / Practice (recap)

n August 23rd the dragon returned to Winneconne with the Ohkosh Dragonboat Club. Blue sky and calm water welcomed the members of the club. Once again the water ballons were no match for the dragon having missed their mark repeatedly. We spent several hours on the water enjoying stops at area businesses including The Wolf River House Resorts and Cottages, whom we owe many thanks to for donating the use of a pontoon and gas, for our safety boat that day. After picking up a couple of brave vacationers from the Wolf River House to try out the sport of dragonboating, back on the water we headed.  We also picked up a few hardy souls at Lang’s Landing. A thank you goes out to Langs Landing for allowing us to use their dock and landing for the day. We made stops at The Other Place for a bite to eat, and The Fin and Feather for a refreshment before we loaded the dragon back on its’ trailer to head to the lair.  As always we generated a lot of attention and questions. A good time was had by all. ODBC would also like to thank the persons who took the time out of their day to man the safety boat.

The Wolf River House Resorts & Cottages has offered anyone participating in the Oshkosh Dragonboat Festival on Sept.26th, 2009 a 20% discount on the price of lodging while they are in the area for the festival. If you choose to stay with them, when you make your reservations state that you are in town for the dragonboat festival.   More information about them can be found at http://www.wolfriverresorts.com/accomodations.cfm

Lang’s Landing is a friendly bunch of people. Don’t worry about the water balloons that fly there, 40 foot target and they can’t hit it!!!!  More information on Lang’s Landing can be found at  http://www.langslanding.com/

Thanks again to everyone involved in making this event happen.

Sunday Aug 23rd (Winneconne Paddle)

The Oshkosh Dragonboat Club is planning a fun paddle/team training from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun Aug 23rd in Winneconne. Launch point will be at Lang’s Landing.  They were kind enough to let us use their private launch and docking space.  In return please patronize their business at some point during the day.

We will be having a lunch break during the day at one of the businesses in town or you can bring your own picnic style lunch if you wish to.  Stops are planned at the following businesses…The Other Place, The Fin and Feather, Lang’s Landing, and an appearance at Wolf River House Resorts and Cottages. There is also an ice cream shop downtown for those of you with a sweet tooth.  The Village Pub and Woodeye’s are within walking distance and have very good sandwiches. Lang’s Landing only has pizzas, The Other Place, The Fin, Village Pub, and Woodeye’s have a full menu.

Water balloon’s have been known to fly in Winneconne so plan on getting wet. We will be distributing flyer’s at some of the local businesses so plan on a few new faces in the boat throughout the day.  We will be there to primarily promote the growth of the club  and answer any questions people may have. If it rains this event will be cancelled.

Sunday Winneconne Paddle 7/18

After launching the boat and paddling around in the not so calm lake we
made a stop at “The Other Place”.  Then we were bribed to stop at “Langs
Landing”.  At Langs Landing we sparked the interest of 7 others to get
in the boat and go for a ride. After paperwork was signed and land
training was done we headed out on the lake.  We were welcomed back with
water balloons, and although we stayed dry the dragon was able to soak
the launcher as we pulled into dock.

Thank you to Kim and Nicole G, Georgine L, Brian T, Cindy P, Ryan K, Don
A, George P, Rod H, and our two new paddlers Chris Olson and Patti
Binner.  Also a thank you to Cindy, Don and Brian for helping us at the
boat house to get the dragon to Winneconne.
